ELIZABETH LENNIE

I work with oil paint on canvas. By choosing to dilute the paint I sense the liminal nature of water in the medium. Images come from
a process of memory reconsolidation, or a continual reframing of imagined, invented and repurposed narratives from the endless summer of my imagination. Laps swims, scuba excursions and family time at our beloved cottage on Rabbit Lake fuel the desire to journal these experiences.

Hemingway’s novel ‘Islands in the Stream’, Picasso’s painting ‘Three Bathers’, and a scene from John Cassavetes film ‘Tempest’ have been imprinted on my memory as somehow I knew they would one day illuminate my future work as a painter of liquid landscapes.
